Active vs Passive Modalities
Everyone loves to get a massage. Massages can help to temporarily relieve pain, but exercise is the primary way to make changes long-term.
Kinesiology used in conjunction with Registered Massage Therapy can be an effective way to address pain, discomfort, and restriction. While our Massage Therapists do administer self-care and exercise techniques, they may be limited in with how much they can give.
That’s where our Kinesiologists can step in and focus their attention on the types of movements that can serve you best.
We need to ensure all patients are receiving both passive (RMT) and active (Kinesiology/exercise) modalities in their recovery to promote better outcomes. This is why Kinesiology is so important to our approach here at Evolve!

I am so glad I got to choose Evolve for my recovery from a MVA. It was able to get Vestibular Physiotherapy from Erin, RMT from Michael and Roylan, and my major part of recovery through Kinesiology with Gordan who supported me with my exercises and strength training. I highly recommend Evolve. They are an amazing team.Posted on Google![]()

I work with a few practitioners at Evolve because I like the location and I love the people there. It's clean and modern. Due to an ICBC accident, I was looking for a RMT and Physio at first. I found Michael (RMT) and Brianna (Physio). Michael was great, he understood my pain areas and always helped me get back movement after our sessions. Brianna is a magician! She has a way to find my underlying problems and magically makes them disappear. A lot of sessions were cupping with mobility and a lot of manual therapy. I find it rare to find a physiotherapist nowadays that doesn't just leave you on the bed with some machines. I very much appreciate her hands-on approach. Finally, my recovery lead me to Gordon (Kinesiologist). Gordon is patient, tentative and challenging. I feel stronger, more stable and have a better understanding of my body (and the weak points) because of the work we've done together. I look forward to our sessions because I know he can make my body feel better, long-term. Even after the ICBC claims are all done, I plan to continue to use Evolve regularly for RMT, Physio & Kinesiology. PS: If you've never tried kinesiology and you've only ever used RMT & Physio like me in the past, give it a try, the conditioning and strengthening work has longer impact on your body!Posted on Google![]()

Have had such great experiences here, both from the treatments themselves and the service I've received. I've had two appointments each with Vince for RMT and Rohit for Physiotherapy and, though 'life-changing' feels a bit dramatic, were so fantastic I've recommended them both to anyone who will listen. Evolve itself is a lovely calming space, and they were so helpful and communicative when there was an issue with one of my insurance payments. Hoping to try out some Kinesiology personal training next!Posted on Google![]()

After my motor vehicle accident, I struggled with neck pain, limited mobility, and ankle issues, which affected my ability to walk and run. Running was a big part of my routine, but I had to cut back because of the pain. I received two types of treatments: Kinesiology with Gordan and Registered Massage Therapy with Corey. Corey focused on my leg, shoulder, and ankle, and after each session, I felt less pain and more recovery. Gordan introduced me to exercises I had never tried before, which greatly improved the strength in my ankle and neck. He also taught me proper posture techniques that have made a big difference in my ability to look up comfortably. Over time, I saw significant improvement, and now, I’m almost fully recovered. My experience with the team was excellent. Everything was precise, detailed, and solid. I always felt supported throughout my rehabilitation. The clinic itself is very clean and well-equipped with everything I needed for my exercises. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend their care to anyone recovering from injuries.Posted on Google![]()

I've been coming to Evolve on Knight Street for almost two years now, and they have an incredible full-service team! Elton and Ryan are fantastic RMTs, Gordan is amazing for kinesiology, and Erin has been great for physiotherapy. They took the time to listen to my concerns and created a customised treatment plan that suited my needs. The Evolve team has been a huge support in my recovery from both ICBC and WSBC injuries, with their help, I’ve recovered to my old self. I couldn’t recommend a clinic more highly!Posted on Google![]()

I recommend Gordan (Kinesiology) and Micheal (RMT) for anyone recovering from injury. They worked as a team, supporting my recovery and rehabilitation after a car accident, and were instrumental to my return to my normal activities/lifestyle. It was very convenient seeing multiple practitioners in the same setting, and you can tell that they both really care about their patient's/clients' recovery. Kinesiology is not something I knew much about, but was offered by ICBC and encouraged as active recovery - Gordan was super patient and taught me how to lift weights safely and increase overall strength. I'd recommend it to anyone who's wanting to increase their own strength and get great home exercise routines as well, to keep it up between appointments.Posted on Google![]()

I have been working kinesiology with Gordan for several months after a motor vehicle accident. I was experiencing acute pain with certain daily movements. Now the pain has almost completely subsided. Gordon has kept the weekly sessions focused yet balanced with variety which has generated positive results. The progress we have made has made a positive effect in my daily life. I can move pain free! He has also given me exercises I can do at home to maintain my progress. Thank-you Gordan.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Evolve to anyone in need of rehabilitation services. Earlier this year, I suffered an accident while using transit that resulted in injuries to my back and leg. I was very fortunate to find Evolve, which handles direct billing to ICBC once your claim is approved for treatment. This meant I only had to focus on attending my appointments regularly without worrying about the administrative side. I am fortunate to have three amazing practitioners involved in my recovery: Brianna for physiotherapy, Gordan for kinesiology (Knight Street location), and Kevin for massage therapy (Victoria Drive location). Both places are always clean and have plenty of natural light, and the relaxed atmosphere greatly aided my recovery. Additionally, they both have all the necessary equipment for various exercises, which has been crucial in my rehabilitation. Brianna, Gordan, and Kevin conducted a thorough assessment of my injuries and developed their treatment plans accordingly, always having my best interest in recovering and living free of pain at heart. The first and significant improvements I noticed after my first appointments were reduced pain, and we are currently working on strengthening my body for my upcoming discharge. The warm and friendly attitude of everyone and the personalized treatment plans they created for me have been crucial in my recovery process, and I am very grateful. I highly recommend them!Posted on Google![]()

I followed my RMT who practices mostly at this location. His name is Vince and he has been helping me through a particularly complex time where many positive health changes have at the same time resulted in some muscle tightness and injuries that come naturally with a more physically active lifestyle. Vince, and the staff at Evolve are always welcoming, conscious, and knowledgeable. Vince has been accommodating, and has demonstrated not only extensive knowledge of kinesiology and massage treatments, but also problem solving and tailoring his suggestions and clinical opinion to individual differences.Posted on Google![]()

This is Evolve’s second clinic and follows the same approach as their first: it has an area with gym equipment to facilitate functional movements, physio training, and Kinesiology sessions. It’s located just past the busier restaurant portion of Victoria so typically there’s street parking available during the weekdays I’ve been. Staff at this location are also friendly and with lots of personal experience and background around pain and movements. I’ve been coming to Evolve for RMT and Physio since their opening and seen a significant improvement in mobility, pain reduction, and in the frequency of pain, and overall strength increase due to their expertise in athlete treatment. Booking is done primarily through their website app and it’s easy to see availability either through treatment type or practitioner.+4Posted on Google![]()

Recenty started to come to this new clinic location. Met Vincent, rmt, he is skilled in kinesiology and many types of massage techniques as stated in his bio. He takes his time to ease tension and effectively work the muscles with his strong hands and techniques. The clinic is clean, and bright. Easy free street parking. Vincent listens well to feedback re pressure and triggered areas. I highly recommend his sessions as body definitely gets worked on and feels great after.Posted on Google![]()

Working with Gordan at Evolve has been an absolute game changer for me. Ever since I began the active rehab program with him, I can feel a drastic improvement on my mobility and pain relief. It was my first time working with a kinesiologist and he made it an awesome experience. He is friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about helping his clients get better. Gordan has provided great explanations of exercises and really positive encouragement. He develops different training contents according to my rehabilitation needs and most importantly, he makes our sessions fun. I’d recommend Gordan to anyone looking for kinesiology training or rehabilitation.Posted on Google![]()

Not a day goes by where I am not so thankful for the staff and quality of care at Evolve! They have seen me through so much over the last 2 and an half years, most recently having been my greatest support system as I have gotten back on my feet (quite literally) after breaking my ankle. The massage therapists truly embody what I think a true therapist is. They provide holistic and personalized treatments, take time to get to know my body and its ailments, and each day meet me where I am at physically and emotionally. Each RMT brings a special skill or approach to treating me. One thing I like about Evolve is that while I have a couple of practitioners that I see more frequently, there is almost always someone available for a treatment. Because of the intimate feel of the clinic I can book with any of their staff and feel well taken care of, and like the continuity of care is there. A special thanks to Miriam, Danny, Michael, JC, and Elton for your magical healing massage work! Along my healing journey I also started seeing Erin, Evolves amazing physiotherapist. Erin is the best physio I have ever had. Once I started bearing weight after three months of no walking, she was there to facilitate my transition. Her assessments are thorough, she is very hands on. Between strength training, stretches, personalized exercises, manual therapy, and needling, her great wealth of knowledge can be attributed to the continual steps forward in my ongoing recovery after my accident! She is also just badass and inspiring. And then there is Gordon. Once Erin had rehabbed me enough to start moving more freely, she connected me with him. Through physio delegated kinesiology, Gordon draws from Erin’s physio assessments, and creates personalized work outs for me. He is whipping me back into a functional body, helping me regain balance and strength as my body is still adjusting to life after injury. Gordon shows no mercy. He is motivating, kind, and really engaged in my journey to wellness and recovery. I have made remarkable breakthroughs with Gordon when it comes to gaining mobility back in my ankle and adjusting to having metal plates and screws in there. Gordon just knows exactly how to build me up. I can’t say enough good things about Evolve- it’s the full package, the real deal, I hope you feel as welcomed and cared for as I have when you walk through those doors :)Posted on Google![]()

I tried both RMT and Kinesiology, and both were exceptional!
how we're different
We do things differently at Evolve Vancouver. We take a modern approach to Kinesiology.
Proactive Treaments
We work with you 1-on-1 to create long-term strategies individual to your goals and personal concerns, and go beyond short, temporary relief. To understand the influencing factors, we must assess thoroughly. We will provide an assessment unique to you.
Patient-centered Care
We want to understand how we can serve you best by learning more about you! We’re here for you. Everyone has different goals and reasons for seeking Kinesiology. We provide patient-centered care and will work with your best interests in mind.
Joy of Movement
We don’t just want to make you stretch and do rehab exercises. We want to show you the joy that moving well, and moving often can bring you!
Focus on Growth
Growth happens through challenge. You won’t grow, or Evolve, without experiencing adversity. At Evolve, our mission is to challenge you to grow and be better.
our Unique process
Here at Evolve, we take a holistic approach with our unique process. The body is complex, but we will do our best to break down and make things simple.
We understand everyone comes in with a unique set of circumstances that can influence the issues you are having. We ensure that your assessment and exercise programs are tailored specifically to you and your unique set of circumstances.
Step 1: Assessment
Assessment can take many forms. Our Kinesiologists will typically assess your joint range of motions in the affected areas, but likely surrounding areas as well, in order to get more information. While joint range of motion is an important assessment, we believe looking at more dynamic motion such as running or walking can give us more information into how your body likes to organize movement. Your Kinesiologist may also assess posture to see what areas may be limiting motion. Your posture may help us to start to identify your body’s preferences for moving, so we can start to explore movement outside of those preferences.
Assessment is something that takes place at the beginning, but also happens throughout your session. How you perform exercises and movement gives your Kinesiologist important feedback that can help you to perform better and minimize discomfort. This feedback is very valuable and will help your Kinesiologist identify a more specific approach.
Step 2: Specific, Corrective Exercise
Based on your assessment and goals, we will choose the most relevant exercises for you. Our first step with exercise is to identify the most specific intervention required for you. That may mean finding new movement strategies that positively support the body while using pain as a guide through motion. Corrective exercise is designed to be a challenging or adequate stimulus to the body to create awareness. We may identify certain parts of movement that can be addressed directly. The exercises shown in this stage may be tailored to more symptomatic relief to help to manage any pain and discomfort, but they can also be helpful for ultimately moving more holistically.
Exercise prescription will vary greatly depending on your goals. Based on your assessment, we will choose the most relevant exercises for you. For example, those experiencing pain with movement will be taught new movement strategies that positively support your body. While pain may be used as a guide, we may not need to feel pain at all if we can find a realistic and relevant way for you to move. Either way, our goal is to provide you with a challenge so your body can adapt and grow more resilient. And in the long run, we want to teach you more about your body so you can take your health into your own hands, and become empowered.
Step 3: Holistic Movement
After identifying strategies for specific, corrective exercise, the goal is to put all pieces together to start moving holistically. Moving holistically means using the entire body to move in a coordinating fashion. The body can understand relationships between structures better when we move them together. Corrective exercise has its place but is not the end goal. Movement and exercise is going to make the biggest changes for you in your journey. Understanding how to coordinate movement will help to make you more confident in your body!
What does “moving the body as one” look like? Movement may be conscious – you think about how you are moving. But, it can also be subconscious – you are moving but not thinking deeply about how to achieve that motion. For example, if you are learning how to squat you may be thinking about how different parts of the body should be working together. Alternatively, if you are going for a walk or a jog, you may just perform the movement without thinking specifically about how you are doing it.
Ultimately, when acquiring new skills and movements, we typically have to think more about the movement – a conscious state. Ideally, the end goal is to perform these new motions subconsciously. These motions may resemble squatting, hinging, lunging, rotating, bending, pushing, pulling, throwing, dancing and more! Being able to move more subconsciously can be liberating! Maybe we think a lot about how we are moving because we are in pain. Movement liberation comes from true expression without internal judgement. We look forward to helping you through this journey!

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Kinesiology is the science of human movement, performance, and function. At Evolve Vancouver, our Registered Kinesiologists assess your movement patterns and prescribe tailored exercise programs to help manage sports injuries, motor vehicle accident injuries (ICBC), back pain, knee pain, and more. Our goal is to move you beyond temporary pain relief and empower you to build long-term strength, mobility, and resilience.
Yes, we directly bill ICBC for active rehab and kinesiology services. If you are recovering from a motor vehicle accident, your initial 55-minute ICBC kinesiology assessment has a $0 user fee. Subsequent 45-minute sessions also have a $0 user fee, ensuring you can focus entirely on your recovery without out-of-pocket expenses.
While both involve exercise, Kinesiologists are regulated healthcare professionals with a university degree specializing in human biomechanics, injury rehabilitation, and anatomy. At Evolve Vancouver, our Kinesiologists can certainly act as high-level personal trainers to optimize your athletic performance, but they are uniquely qualified to safely manage complex pain, injuries, and post-accident rehabilitation. Read more about it on our blog post.
Your exercise program is entirely customized to your specific needs and goals. Depending on your assessment, your Kinesiologist may guide you through 3-dimensional stretching, resistance training, plyometrics, fascial sling training, mace/clubbell training, self-massage techniques, or targeted postural and breathing exercises.
Your initial visit involves a comprehensive assessment of how your body organizes movement. We look beyond basic joint range of motion to analyze dynamic motions like walking, running, or squatting. This helps us identify your body’s movement preferences and postural habits so we can design a specific, corrective exercise plan tailored just for you.
Our goal is to help you find new movement strategies that positively support your body, using pain as a guide—not a barrier. While corrective exercises are designed to challenge your body to create adaptation and awareness, we aim to find realistic and relevant ways for you to move comfortably, minimizing pain while building strength.
Kinesiology and RMT work perfectly together as a complete recovery strategy. While massage therapy provides excellent passive care to temporarily relieve pain and reduce restriction, kinesiology provides the active care (exercise and movement re-education) required to make those physical changes permanent. We highly recommend combining both modalities for the best long-term outcomes.
Not at all! Kinesiology is for anyone looking to move better and more often. Whether you want to correct your posture, overcome a plateau at the gym, improve your sports performance, or simply rediscover the joy of moving without stiffness, our Kinesiologists can design a program to help you optimize your health and longevity.
